White House launches 'Trump TV' stream, draws tiny viewership

The White House launched a 24/7 "Trump TV" livestream on its official YouTube channel amid the administration’s ban on MSNBC, CNN and Politico. At launch Monday night the stream peaked at about 8,000 concurrent viewers, fell to around 4,000 within 90 minutes and was drawing roughly 1,600 viewers Tuesday morning during archived footage. Critics compared Trump TV to state-run broadcasters in North Korea, China and Russia, with California Gov. Gavin Newsom calling it "autocratic behavior" and the Lincoln Project labeling it state-run media. White House deputy communications director Kaelan Dorr defended the channel as a way to show the administration’s "greatest hits, unfiltered." Journalist Juliet Jeske said she watched three hours and found it to be re-runs with no added production value, calling it "sad" and noting low viewership. Major news outlets including ABC, Fox News, CBS and NBC suspended pooled television coverage in solidarity with the barred outlets, which filed a lawsuit over the White House restrictions.

The White House says it banned Politico for using anonymous sources. One of the examples it cited was their own background briefing in which the White House itself provided the anonymous official. @scottnover.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
