Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigned as leader of the B.C. Conservative Party effective immediately, announcing the decision in a social media post Sunday. She said internal conflict had consumed too much time and attention and that her family has endured attacks on her character and threats. The resignation follows weeks of caucus upheaval, including MLA Linda Hepner leaving hours earlier, three MLAs being ousted last Friday and 10 MLAs quitting since mid-August, bringing the total number who have left the caucus to 14. Eight former MLAs joined CentreBC after their departures. Findlay fired John Rustad, Claire Rattée and Trevor Halford late Thursday, and Rustad said he received a late-night text firing he later rescinded before being fired again. Findlay said the voices of party members who elected her in May matter and she will remain the Conservative candidate in the Abbotsford-Mission byelection set for September 26. Her exit comes amid speculation Premier David Eby may call a snap provincial election that could disrupt municipal elections scheduled for October 17.
