oomf already mentioned luca's finished painting of lara as it pertains to the trans themes, but I also really love reading this part through that lens; adding back in the legs hurting to walk on and talking of her scars because the legs are now hers and real and not fantasy (as if akin to SRS)

Maybe I'm just stupid or Little Mermaid-pilled or something, but the ending of Goodbye, Lara is in direct dialog with the intentions of Anderson in regards to his original story. He didn't believe in the mermaid being given her soul by someone else but having the agency earn it on her own

Goodbye, Lara is a story about growing up, finding yourself, accepting yourself-- especially as an ""other"". It's about the expectations placed on, specifically but not exclusively, women. Young women. Women who don't conform. It challenges you to reject "True Love", but Not love.
