National Hispanic Heritage Month begins in the United States on September 15 and runs through October 15 to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. MRFF board member John Compere summarized the origins and purpose of the month in coverage marking the observance. The National Museum of the American Latino frames the month as a time to learn about Hispanic and Latino histories and cultures, while the Library of Congress is offering new resources and programs tied to the commemoration. Artists, elected officials, researchers, and cultural institutions are marking the month with statements, programs, and calls to nominate Latino music for the National Recording Registry. The observance continues through October 15 and will include local and national events, educational offerings, and institutional programming.
