EPA to erase limits on power-plant climate pollution

newsSep 14, 2026683,880

The Environmental Protection Agency under administrator Lee Zeldin is moving to formally rescind carbon and methane pollution limits for coal- and gas-fired power plants, the New York Times reports. The action would eliminate Biden-era standards that required fossil fuel plants to limit greenhouse gas emissions or adopt controls such as carbon capture, and officials plan to announce the repeal at an energy conference in Houston. Agency documents and reporting say the EPA will argue in court filings that power-plant greenhouse gas regulation is unnecessary and does not endanger public health, while industry advocates have pointed to rising electricity demand from data centers as justification. Generation of electricity is the second-largest source of U.S. carbon dioxide and power plants are the largest industrial source of greenhouse gases, so the repeal would remove federal limits on a major sector of national emissions. Critics in news coverage say the move completes the rollback of significant Obama- and Biden-era climate rules and will likely allow higher emissions from existing coal and gas capacity; the administration frames it as deregulatory action to reduce regulatory burdens. The repeal is expected imminently and will prompt legal challenges and political fights over state and federal roles in limiting climate pollution.

Some crucial context: In the US, power plants are largest industrial source of greenhouse gas emissions. bsky.app/profile/zhir...

the us is collapsing from within. we'll eventually be in a depression worse than the great depression, but everyone will be too stupid, sick, and divided about violence to topple the ruling class.

This is tragic The only *possible* silver lining here is that the World cant get Oil out of the Middle East at the moment and Solar Panels, EVs and Heat Pumps are catching on quicker than the Trump administration would like And Coal, is Victorian Era dying technology. Regardless of rollbacks.

I hope people understand the downstream effects of this: it's not just the pollution or climate change itself. We'll also see long-term health impacts because of it, which further puts a strain on the healthcare system. Imagine enriching insurance companies, private equity, etc. to "own" the Dems.

#HoldBigOilAccountable for the damage they have done and continue to do to our planet! Hold politicians that approve policies that support greed over people and planet equally accountable! We do not have time for this stupid, greedy foolishness!! Vote republicans out of office FOREVER!!

It's official: The EPA has repealed a rule that would have directly saved thousands of lives by limiting fossil fuel emissions from power plants. Industry lobbyists successfully pushed for this repeal using surging demand from data centers as justification. The government chose AI over human lives.
