The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority voted unanimously Friday to begin the process of renaming Nashville International Airport in honor of Dolly Parton. The MNAA resolution directs president and CEO Doug Kreulen to immediately start the change process in consultation with and subject to approval of Dolly Parton’s estate and other appropriate entities, and to produce a timeline, implementation plan, and cost estimates. A final name has not been determined; the board said it is "working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated." Nashville International is currently identified as BNA, a reference to its original name Berry Field, which honored Col. Harry Smith Berry. The board called the vote the "first step in a multifaceted process" and said it expects to share more definitive plans in the coming months. The move has drawn bipartisan support while city and state remain at odds over board control, and a plane promoting a petition flew over the state Capitol as leaders weighed in.
