A20 Pro chip powers iPhone 18 Pro, built on 2nm

Apple unveiled the A20 Pro, its first 2nm system-on-chip, and said it will power the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The A20 Pro uses a six-core CPU with two supercores Apple says are 20% faster alongside four efficiency cores, and a seven-core GPU Apple claims can deliver up to 40% higher graphics performance. Apple upgraded its neural accelerators to 2x faster 8-bit floating-point math and added a second Neural Engine for a total of 32 cores, doubling on-device AI compute and enabling advanced AI workloads such as running third-party large language models locally. Memory bandwidth increases 50 percent via what Apple calls the widest memory interface ever in an iPhone, and the chip adopts an M-series-inspired package that places the silicon die side by side with memory to keep memory out of the SoC thermal path and connect directly to a next-generation vapor chamber for improved thermal performance. The A20 Pro also includes a new display engine to drive the Duo’s dual screens and to blend pixels around the under-display camera for a consistent visual experience.
