iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable, debuts

techSep 9, 202630402

Apple unveiled its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, at a Cupertino event led by CEO John Ternus. The device opens like a book to a 7.6-inch inner display that Apple says is 50 percent larger than the iPhone Pro Max and includes an external screen about 90 percent the surface area of an iPhone Pro. Apple described a titanium body with speakers on the top and bottom, an integrated magnet closure, and two batteries that operate as one, and said the Duo will reintroduce Touch ID as a side authentication button. Apple highlighted split view multitasking and the ability to run two windows of the same app, and Craig Federighi demonstrated use cases such as hands-free video on the outer display and selfie framing using the rear camera. Bloomberg reported that the Duo will support Apple Pencil. The phone starts at $1,999, with preorders beginning Oct. 16 and in-store availability on Oct. 23, initially in star white and night sky finishes.

looking at the iPhone Duo fold animation makes me wish that Windows 11 wouldn't re-arrange all my apps on my multiple monitors every time I resume from sleep 🥲
