US Police Raise Concerns Over Meta Smart Glasses' Recording

In January the New York Police Department counterterrorism bureau circulated a memo warning that Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses pose a new “security and counterintelligence” threat and directing officers to “conduct thorough inspections of all eyewear permitted within inmate cells.” The memo, one of about a dozen documents reviewed by the Guardian and obtained by Property of the People, warned that glasses with small cameras and microphones could be used to covertly record inside law enforcement and detention facilities and cited two examples of such videos posted online. One of the cited videos, posted to TikTok in July 2025, showed the interior of a South Carolina detention center under federal investigation, including showers, holding cells, and an overcrowded cafeteria, with detainees seemingly unaware of being filmed. Agencies note the glasses can pass as ordinary Ray-Bans or Oakleys and that only a small blinking light signals recording, which can go unnoticed. Privacy experts and members of the public have nicknamed the devices “pervert glasses” and say they have been used to harass people; the documents show law enforcement officials share those concerns and fear recordings could reveal cell layouts, camera placements, or patrol routines that might aid criminal acts or terrorism. The papers have prompted departments from Maine to California to issue internal warnings and tighten inspections of eyewear in custody settings.

🚨US police fear Meta smart glasses could be used to secretly record them All I have to say is - if they aren’t doing anything wrong then they have nothing to worry about. Isn't that what they tell the public...
