Manchester City agree £125m transfer for Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea

sportsSep 1, 202628807

Manchester City have agreed to pay a joint-British transfer record fee of £125 million to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, with the 25-year-old set to undergo a medical before signing a long-term deal. Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for a then-British record £107 million and had been pushing to leave Chelsea since March; Chelsea set a 17:00 BST deadline on 14 August for offers of £120 million or more. City reached the agreement after 24 hours of talks; personal terms are not expected to be an issue. The fee matches the £125 million Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer and follows City breaking their own record earlier this window with Elliot Anderson for £116 million. Chelsea’s sale of Fernández is their second-biggest ever and will help the club register a Premier League record for income from player sales as part of a summer expected to generate over £400 million. City have been rebuilding midfield resources after departures including Tijjani Reijnders, Rodri, Nico González and Bernardo Silva and have already signed midfielders including Ayoub Bouaddi and Elliot Anderson this window.
