Z.AI unveils Ox Alpha GLM model and plans to release its weights

Z.AI confirmed that the anonymous Ox Alpha model is its new GLM-5.3-Flash. GLM-5.3-Flash is a 320 billion parameter mixture-of-experts model with about 18 billion active parameters, is described as the first natively multimodal model in the GLM-5 series, and supports text, image, and video. Z.AI says the model matches high-end baselines on coding and agentic benchmarks, briefly appeared as a free endpoint on OpenRouter where it led usage charts, and users compared its coding performance to Anthropic’s Fable and Claude-tier models. Multiple posts report that inference has been served on Chinese-made AI chips and that Z.AI acquired a roughly 60 percent stake in Zhongke Jiahe, a firm tied to heterogeneous compute likely used to run the model at production scale. Z.AI announced it will publish the model weights (GGUF coming), and until the weights are released the model can only be inspected via the company’s endpoint rather than by running the weights locally.
