Portland Fire unveil Rose, a glitter-breathing dragon mascot

The Portland Fire revealed Rose, a pink, glitter-loving dragon mascot, during halftime of Sunday’s game against the Washington Mystics at the Moda Center. The team described Rose as "Confident, magnetic and effortlessly cool" and said she embodies Portland’s bold, creative and welcoming spirit. The unveiling followed a week of mysterious citywide glitter scorch marks, including a smoking, pink glitter-filled crater outside the arena that appeared Sunday morning. Local scientists who inspected the crater reported the pink glitter matches material found at earlier scorch sites at Nike, Powell’s Books and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. The debut closed out the team’s "Epicenter Week" celebration of women in sports and coincided with the Fire’s "Glitter Night" promotion, when the first 10,000 fans received pink glitter pens. The reveal linked the mascot’s arrival to tangible city sightings and scientific confirmation rather than a purely symbolic launch.
