World War II Memorial vandalized with red graffiti and soap bubbles

On August 13, 2026, the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. was found smeared with neon red/orange graffiti reading "Clean hands Dirty $" and its fountain filled with soapy bubbles that overflowed. The vandalism was concentrated at the Atlantic Pavilion area of the memorial. The U.S. Park Police opened an investigation and the Department of the Interior called the incident "an utter disgrace." Officials have not announced arrests or identified suspects as the investigation continues.
