Leagues Cup, Tigres beat Vancouver on penalties

Tigres UANL advanced in the Leagues Cup after a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps and a 5-4 penalty shootout win. Rodrigo Aguirre put Tigres ahead in the 18th minute after running off Mathías Laborda and finishing past Isaac Boehmer. Emmanuel Sabbi equalized for Vancouver in the 80th minute with a chest-controlled finish off the underside of the crossbar. Tigres finished the match with nine men after Diego Lainez received a straight red card in the 88th minute for speaking to the referee and goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán was also shown a straight red for shoving the referee during a free kick. Vancouver goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer made two big saves in the shootout to force seven rounds, but misses by Mathías Laborda and Ralph Priso and a failed penalty from Rayan Elloumi left the Whitecaps short. Vancouver were awarded one point for the shootout loss, their only point in this year’s Leagues Cup, and return to MLS play at Seattle Sounders on August 16 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

This Tigres v Whitecaps game keep on giving. In the last few minutes Tigres picked up one red card for saying something to the ref when their player was down. Then the keeper getting a red by pushing the ref when trying to quickly restart. 😂🥳
