moviesAug 6, 202636645

Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed a live-action adaptation of the 1960s animated series The Jetsons starring Jim Carrey is in development. The project was first reported in October 2025 with Colin Trevorrow attached to direct and was listed in Warner Bros.’ second-quarter 2026 shareholder letter among titles slated for release beyond 2027. The Jetsons is grouped on that slate alongside the Game of Thrones feature Aegon’s Conquest, the next Matrix movie, and the sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Warner Bros. listed several films as confirmed for 2027, including Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie’s Ocean’s Eleven prequel, James Gunn’s Superman movie Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to a Minecraft Movie, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond. No cast beyond Jim Carrey and no firm release date have been announced.

I like how there was a span of a few years where Jim Carrey was determined to be an acclaimed actor and then he took some time off, looked deeply into his own thoughts, and realized he needed to play Magilla Gorilla

Jim Carrey's 180 from "I'm just gonna retire and/or mostly do drama actually" (he's also making GRINCH 2) becomes less surprising when you remember they've invented making movies where the highest paid actors almost never have to come to a set with other people anymore

The Jetsons is the first film in a planned Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe that will be prematurely canceled when they spend hundreds of millions of dollars on marketing and branding before they realize HBCU is already taken

Oh finally, the Jetson’s reboot I’ve been wanting for years is finally happening!! ☺️☺️ Starring Jim Carrey 😕

Studio Execs, May 2026: "How did OBSESSION and BACKROOMS bring in such young audiences?" Studio Execs, August 2026: "I know what they'll love! A live-action remake of a cartoon from the 1960s I watched when my parents left me in front of a tv so they could fight about money in the kitchen!"

Jim Carrey is 65 years old. I don't want a 65 years old George Jetson.

Seeing that it will be done like that, it might be pretty weird but what the heck.

Jim Carrey is too old to play George Jetson! sorry for yelling.

Bob Chipman ("MovieBob")21

This is BLEAK, man. Say this for James Gunn: I admire his obvious restraint for sticking by Matt Reeves, because at least 60% of why the WB slate looks like this is because he committed to not (really) letting the DCU Batman stuff step on "THE BATMAN's" toes despite all these delays.

David Zaslav: “You’re going to meet George Jetson whether you like it or not. Our company’s future literally depends on the American public’s willingness to welcome his boy Elroy into their hearts.” Daughter Judy and Jane, his wife, were unavailable for comment at this time.

If the wachowski sisters arent making it then you can fucking keep it but thank you for offering

no, im jory3

Remember how Jim Carrey said he's retiring unless the script is great and since has just done IP junk

This is basically why Resurrections exists. WB told Lana they were making a new Matrix with or without her, and she wanted the final word on the franchise, regardless of where WB would take it after she left. Anything after Resurrections functionally doesn’t matter.

Kids come running for the great taste of a 70 year-old man starring in a live-action adaptation of a 70 year-old cartoon!

I admit Jim Carrey as George Jetson I didn't have on my bingo card

"The Matrix should have ended at one movie" is no longer a controversial opinion.
