Ford's affordable electric truck finally has a name and a price. The Fathom will start at $29,945, including a $1,595 destination charge, and it gets a pretty decent list of standard equipment.

In all seriousness, my one thought on the Ford Fathom vs Slate hypotheticals that everyone's rushing to crank out is this: Ford knows pickups better than any other automaker. It's an easy bet that the Fathom will be a good pickup. (Whether it's a great EV, we'll see. But don't bet against it.)
Ryan McManus10Here's the Galaxy Brain take: Slate succeeding is GOOD news for Fathom (and Telo...). At this nascent stage of small EV truck market growth, the more customers in the TOTAL market the better for each player. None will win by winning alone. This isn't F-150 vs. Silverado, yet.

punt1i think ford can get a lot of volume out of an escape or other suv on the same platform, and that plus their new lfp battery factory should give them a big advantage at scale. slate is pretty neat though. there could be room for both!
Ford Fathom is an... odd name. But whatever, most car names are weird. Honda Civic? With destination, the Fathom will be $30k. I've said this before: there's no reason why these large automakers couldn't make an inexpensive EV like the Slate at that price point with electric windows and screens.
