FIFA $20bn plan to privatize World Cup, UEFA threatens boycott
UEFA is considering a boycott of FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup and the Club World Cup Because the non-profit FIFA wants to hand over influence to private investors There are 55 members in UEFA
I'd support a complete boycott of anything to do with FIFA under Infantino's leadership. He's completely bought into the toxic US obsession with money over everything else and will kill the game for personal gain. Time to show him that football isn't his to sell.
CONCACAF have also come out against this. They could get together with UEFA and organise a tournament that's about the football, not funneling funds to the Trump crime family.
An investment company managed by the KUSHNERS no less!!!🤮🤮🤮🤮 not going to happen!! These ppl are toxic & the whole concept is just wrong!!
Because the non-profit FIFA wants to hand over influence to private investors You mean ‘ hand over to Trump, his family & chums!’
Could they actually have the balls to do it. Somebody has to reign in FIFA and the sooner the better. We are losing the beautiful game.
Start a new breakaway tournament Announce you’ll keep politics IN football, ban any countries actively at war and award Trump/Netanyahu/Putin prizes for supporting genocide.
This rhymes with OpenAI going from non-profit to billionaire-producing for-profit. (Not everybody happy with that move either)
Spain, Portugal, and Morocco are joint hosts for 2030 so this would be a big deal if Spain and Portugal take part in any boycott. Having Europe out would basically turn this into the 1984 Olympics.
Nearly a hundred years of this tournament and the moment Trump touched it, it died.
I'm not saying they're wrong to be upset at all. It does make me smile a little though that UEFA (Europeans) is wanting to revolt against FIFA. FIFA of course being the organization Europeans started, in Europe, and is often, and currently, headed up by a European who was part of UEFA.
Infantino is now blackmailing countries saying if they sign up for his scam to sell the World Cup they will get $40m. If they don't he will only give them $10m. He doesn't just need to be fired he needs to be arrested, this is Blackmail and Fraud.
Extortion? Graft. So many words for this mob.
I am selling shares in Buckingham Palace if anyone is interested.
I disagree. He does need to be fired. Straight into the sun.
Once Trump has touched you....
Trump and Infantino are basically mafia bosses
If UEFA held a tournament (Europeans teams and other applicants) at the same time as the FIFA world cup - there would be be no World Cup. There would be no selling off of football. A few ideas need casting, plans prepared and threats made. Infantino would fade away in shame.
i've seen no evidence he is capable of shame
Indeed! 6 out of 8 quarter finalists this year were European. It wouldn't be much of a World Cup without them!
If FIFA follows through with it's plans of the World Cup every second year, then there is already a UEFA tournament, that FIFA cant compete with, and thats the European Championship.
@redcol.bsky.social The only problem is UEFA is just as rotten and will soon enough fall into line once they receive their brown envelopes
It’s time to break free from FIFA.,That organization is no longer fit for purpose. If you love football & you agree, promise you will write a letter to your national football association protesting its actions during the World Cup & recommending secession. Europe could certainly do it unilaterally
It's a battle for control of football that Infantino arrogantly thinks he will easily win. The corruption has become his only focus, with one simple strategy: buy off those in charge in the smaller footballing nations, and get their votes.
Enough statements, enough words, enough "careful consideration", enough private disgust. It's time for UEFA and Europe to take action against what FIFA and Infantino are doing to football: www.theguardian.com/football/202...
Put it this way – it's 11.59pm in the battle (if that's what it has really been so far) to save football. No more time to wait for the clock to strike.
Completely agree @nickames82.bsky.social. As I have noted elsewhere, if this does not force the UEFA affiliated Associations to reflect on how FIFA is currently run and governed, taking proper, concrete action to address its unrepairable state, nothing will. An inflection point has arrived.
Is it a pre requisite to be corrupt to be considered for FIFA presidency… #SeppBlatter
It's obscene open bribery. The game really has gone if this goes through. #stopinfantino
What rational or financial argument is there to sell off one of the most valuable "products" in the world - that you insist is only going to become more valuable? Why would you sell off ownership in the World Cup? It's not like there are debt issues www.independent.co.uk/sport/footba...
Trumponomics in full flow Filthy Greedy Bstds 🤮
It's almost as though someone wants to make as much money for themselves as they can before they retire? Usually the answer to both "Why is this happening?" and "Who benefits most from this" are related.
the profit is the point. bigger is the point. more and more and more is the point. we are in the death-rattle stages of late capitalism. there is no logic; power and wealth simply accumulates for its own sake. the hunger for more is insatiable and will consume everything we love in the process.
Personal gain. Infantino will bring in the Trumps in exchange for power and influence. He actively wants to be in the Epstein files. For him, I would mean he made it.
What does football need? Is it more kleptocracy? FIFA has thoughts...
FIFA President Gianni Infantino's plan to create a $20 billion company running the World Cup with private investors including the Kushner family was announced Tuesday — and immediately attacked by European soccer body UEFA. apnews.com/article/worl...
Infantino can do one. Just like his good friend Trump he demeans every thing he touches. The Fifa peace prize should have been the cutoff point.
I hope this goes the Boar of Peace way. So the US, excelling at football as they do, can play Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
European teams should boycott anything connected to FIFA and its corruption
