Four women have told the BBC that Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto committed criminal sexual conduct when they were teenagers, and the BBC says a total of 10 women spoke to its documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret. One woman says she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom at 17; another says Leto threatened her with sexual assault at 19 after they were unexpectedly left alone in a hotel room. A third says she had under-age sex with Leto in California at 17, which the BBC says would be statutory rape, and a fourth says Leto groomed her with repeated sexually explicit phone calls when she was 16 and later sent a non-disclosure agreement she refused to sign. The BBC corroborated some accounts with friends and family and said it had seen pictures and messages supporting those women's stories, and it counted more than 120 separate allegations about Leto online. Two men who worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars told the documentary staff felt uncomfortable with how Leto interacted with teenage girls, including inviting them backstage or to his house. The BBC says all encounters took place between 2002 and 2016 when Leto was in his 30s and 40s; Leto, now 54, did not respond to the allegations put to him by the BBC, and the band is scheduled to tour mainland Europe and the UK next spring.

As best as I can tell, Leto’s been in two moneymaking films in the last 20 years (Suicide Squad and House Of Gucci). In both cases he was in a small role, made up to be unrecognizable, and supporting far more consistently bankable stars (Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Lady Gaga).
