don’t worry everyone i had a dream last night where i convinced Nolan to reshoot the Odyssey but make it good & not just sometimes fun to look at this time. first thing’s first: Polyphemus’ voice. i’m thinking: a thousand pig squeals layered on top of each other but pitched way down

If you take nothing else from reading An Uncomplicated Man by Emily Wilson: A Review of Nolan’s Odyssey, let it be the awe from the deconstruction, examination, explanation, and expertise—goddess-level authority with forensic academic scrutiny.

So basically: worth seeing for the spectacle. But don't expect historical accuracy or authenticity, nor a close adaptation of Homer's Odyssey really. P.S The pig TF scene was actually incredible though, not gonna lie. Nolan should consider doing full on body horror more often.

I think a lot of the artistic snob bogeyman stuff grew out of a (legitimate) reaction to a lot of gendered criticism - pop music, romance, chick lit, reality tv etc automatically can’t be good - but nobody has ever suggested either a Greek epic or a Christopher Nolan movie can’t be good

Finally saw Odyssey with my son. Enjoyed it after the boring early bit. Yes: Samantha Morton as Circe, Matt Damon as Odysseus, Robert Pattinson as slime incarnate, Elliot Page as Sinon, the cyclops, the pig scene, the Laestrygonians. No: Tom Holland, who seemed out of his depth. Fun movie.

The Odyssey is pretty good, but Nolan's limitations as a screenwriter feel almost inescapable at this point

Just saw The Odyssey. I enjoyed it a lot, of course. I like how every miracle and act of magic could be explained as a chance of nature - except Circe turning everyone into pigs. No ambiguity there, she really did just pig those guys up on camera
