Steven Cruz recorded the final out to earn the save as the Kansas City Royals held on for a 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers, splitting the series at Comerica Park. Nate Pearson was credited with the win and Drew Sommers took the loss. Salvador Perez hit a solo home run in the seventh off Kyle Finnegan for his 318th career homer, passing George Brett for the franchise record. Jacob Waguespack worked through traffic and stranded two runners in the eighth inning. The victory continued a stretch in which the Royals have now played seven consecutive one-run games, including five come-from-behind wins in the sixth inning or later, and moved Kansas City to 7-3 since the break; Kansas City finished 2-5 at Comerica Park in 2026 but won the last two games there. The club travels next to Minneapolis with the series starting Tuesday at Target Field.
