Formula 1 confirmed Sepang International Circuit near Kuala Lumpur will host the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia on October 2-4, staged there after Bahrain’s April race was called off because of the war in the Middle East. F1 said the move preserves a 23-race 2026 season and that the rest of the schedule remains unchanged; the Sepang round sits a week before the Singapore Grand Prix. Uncertainty remains over the final two scheduled races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi because of the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, and F1 is working on contingency options including Imola, Portimao, and Istanbul Park if those rounds cannot proceed. A decision on potential replacements for Qatar and Abu Dhabi does not have to be made until September, F1 said. The arrangement to stage Bahrain’s race in Malaysia was heavily influenced by Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa; Bahrain’s sovereign investment fund also owns the McLaren F1 team. F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali thanked the rulers of Bahrain and Malaysia and called Sepang a special venue that will provide a spectacular setting for the race; Sepang last hosted a Grand Prix in 2017 and first appeared on the F1 calendar in 1999.
