Red Sox 15-game streak reshapes trade-deadline strategy

The Boston Red Sox tied a 15-game winning streak that pushed them to 52-49 and into an American League wild-card spot. The run followed a disastrous start but since June 25 Boston has gone 20-3, including an 11-of-14 surge at Fenway after opening the year 12-25 at home. Interim manager Chad Tracy said the streak revealed an identity built on quality at-bats, strong starts, bullpen work and pristine defense. The team shifted toward small-ball during the streak, recording 11 stolen bases, eight sacrifice bunts and six sacrifice flies while earlier in the season they had 11 sacrifice bunts and 23 sacrifice flies in 85 games. New contributors from Triple-A helped sustain that approach, and timely hitting and improved pitching combined to change outcomes. Those developments have prompted the front office to view the club as a contender and consider adding pieces ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline rather than making moves that would disrupt the newly found identity.
