Newcastle complete signing of Aladji Bamba from Monaco

Newcastle United have signed 20-year-old French defensive midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco on a five-year contract. Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie and other outlets say the underlying package is about £30m plus £4m in add-ons, while separate reports put the package at roughly €40, 41m. The Mag's John Martin and other reports say Bamba travelled to Tyneside to complete the move and undergo a medical. Fabrice Hawkins reported Monaco green-lit the transfer and that personal terms were agreed. Newcastle posted an announcement saying the fee was undisclosed, and social posts indicate Bamba will take the number 8 shirt. The club has completed formalities and added a young holding midfielder to Eddie Howe's squad ahead of the new season.

Comparisons are always dangerous of course but to my eye, he looks a more natural footballer than Tonali. The latter was clearly very well coached from an early age and has excellent technique but Bamba looks much more relaxed on the ball for a kid playing such a responsible position. #nufc
