Kamigawa: Titanbreach announced for MTG 2027
Our third set of the year is a return to a fan-favorite plane under siege. Kamigawa: Titanbreach releases June 4th! #MTGKamigawa youtu.be/cC6ebvZg-_Q
I'm so excited for this set to release! Probably the single set I've spent most time on, I was on the team for almost all of both vision design and set design. It was also my second ever limited lead, and one of my favorite sets of all time. I can't wait for y'all to see it.
mechs vs kaiju Mechs vs Kaiju MECHS VS KAIJU
Ah shit this is incredibly my shit

LET'S GOOOOO! My favorite Plane (Ikoria) and my wife's favorite Plane (Kamigawa), in the same set, fighting each other! Oh I am stupid excited for this one
WE'RE GETTING A KAIJU SET TOO NEXT YEAR SHUT UP YOU'RE JOKING
2027 is looking like the year of long asked-for sets, including the Mechs vs. Kaiju set, with Ikoria crashing into Kamigawa!

I was the lead Vision Designer for Kamigawa: Titanbreach. I hope you’re all ready for a huge set! #MTGKamigawa #wotcstaff
From all robot lovers: thank you 🛐
Chris, you can't keep making my favorite things in Magic. Jk. Please continue. 🙇🏾♂️
Fam, I am *NOT* ready. I could never *BE* ready. All I can do is just brace for impact when it releases and pray for the best. I will be outlandishly feral about this set. You have no idea.
IT'S SO FUCKING COOL CHRIS. YOUR VISION
Wow I am getting a lot of kaiju art direction vibes from another WoTC TCG that just celebrated 25 years 👀👀 What’s the verb for Kaiju’s fighting again? Kaijudo was it?
Hey Chris, when I saw you were the lead that got my hype even higher! Super excited for that 🫰🏼🫰🏼
the (early, general) enthusiasm about kamigawa titanbreach fuels my suspicion that "hat set" is more a cliche people like to repeat than a useful aesthetic judgment. ppl SAY that it's the problem with MKM/OTJ/DFT, but clearly the promise of doing a genre can be really exciting for lots of people
the "hat set" accusation tries to ascribe badness to a structural cause: "MKM was always going to be bad bc all it was doing was hitting genre beats." but in reality, maybe execution is often the problem! maybe bad set is bad because its constituent parts are bad
People always think their hat is cool. This is why Fedora.
To be fair, this is more of a mask than a hat. The problem with hat sets is literally the hats
I've always thought a core appeal of Magic is that it's this vast library of pop culture and sci-fi/fantasy genre, expressed as art and game mechanics. A certain hatti-ness is baked in to why we love Magic. Hat Set problem emerges when the signifiers feel like a tacked-on layer.
This hat was perfectly sculpted for MY head in particular!! Also MKM's story ripped, OTJ had incredible limited, and DFT is one of the most represented sets in my favorite cube
I think this is onto something, but at the same time the pitch “Kamigawa: Mechs vs Kaiju” does about as much for me personally as “Murder Mystery boardgame set”.
Happy to say that in-universe Magic still absolutely has the sauce. This is the good stuff Nauctis looks pretty interesting Kamigawa Titanbreach looks like my kind of stuff ZHALFIR ALREADY LOOKS INCREDIBLE Excited for in-universe Magic next year, hell yeah
Titanbreach got me BRICKED UP
it looks so good! and I'm so glad they didn't announce the UB stuff for the calendar. Nauctis looks so sick. so many new blorbos.
EVERY ONE OF THESE SETS LOOK INSANE!! With Nauctis being an awesome looking new setting, to some fun tropey Mech-Kaiju battles in Kamigawa, and the cherry on top of a full look at Zhalfir with some AMAAAZING looking art direction.
