Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, sent a public letter July 8 asking Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to update Kentuckians on his health after McConnell has been hospitalized since June 14. Beshear wrote that "over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the current state of your health and wellbeing, and ability to hold office in the United States Senate," and requested that McConnell "fully update Kentuckians regarding the current status of your health." Beshear said the situation "requires clear communication about one’s ability to serve." McConnell, 84, has remained out of public view during a hospitalization that has extended into its fourth week. The letter presses McConnell’s office for transparency about his condition and capacity to perform Senate duties.
