Mariska Hargitay to host the 78th Emmy Awards in September

Mariska Hargitay will host the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14, airing live on NBC and Peacock from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE. Hargitay said hosting is an honor in NBC’s 100th birthday year and praised television storytellers; NBC executive Jen Neal and Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego issued statements calling her a television icon who will create an unforgettable evening. Hargitay has eight Emmy nominations for playing Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, with a win in 2006, and she won an Emmy in 2019 as a producer for the documentary I Am Evidence. SVU enters its 28th season this fall and will reach its 600th episode, and Hargitay directed the 2025 documentary My Mom Jayne. The nominations for the 78th Emmys will be announced on Wednesday, July 8, and the telecast is scheduled for 8/7c (and 5 PM). She is the first performer not primarily known for comedy to host the ceremony since 2008.
