Mariska Hargitay will host the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14, airing on NBC and Peacock from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE. Hargitay said hosting is an honor during NBC’s 100th anniversary and praised television storytellers, while NBC executive Jen Neal and Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego called her a television icon. Hargitay has eight Emmy nominations for playing Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, with a win in 2006, and earned a 2019 Emmy as a producer for the documentary I Am Evidence. SVU is entering its 28th season in September and will reach its 600th episode this fall; Hargitay also directed the 2025 documentary My Mom Jayne. Nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards will be announced Wednesday, July 8, and the telecast is scheduled for 8/7c (and 5 PM). She is the first performer not primarily known for comedy to host the ceremony since 2008.
