Australia vs Ireland, Nations Championship match

sportsJul 4, 202625182

Australia and Ireland played a tight Nations Championship test in which the sides traded early tries and Australia wing Jock Campbell crossed for a score. The game remained close to the final whistle, with commentators calling it a nervy finish and one fan describing it as "seeing out a tight win." Hugo Keenan's tackle on Mackenzie Suaalii was singled out as a pivotal moment, described by a fan as effectively a 14-point swing. Ireland's lineout and anonymous wing play were repeatedly flagged as problems while Australia's bench was praised as a major influence after half-time and coach Daveen Schmidt's work with Australia drew explicit praise. Television match official intervention drew criticism for taking too long and becoming a farce. Supporters on both sides framed the result as a strong, dramatic start to the Nations Championship and left momentum and selection questions to resolve next.

Good end to a pretty ropey half. All the focus On Here inevitably on Prendergast and he's not been great, but our lineout, defence and anonymous wingers have been far bigger issues (and O'Keeffe really giving us nothing at the breakdown). Game still there but we need to tighten up. #AUSvIRE
