Tour de France Grand Depart, Barcelona team time trial
Climate change comes for the Tour de France and no amount of hydration breaks can save it.
I remember stages in the Vuelta last year happening in 100+ heat and I just…nope. We can actually tackle climate collapse. We can.
Wondering whether those with an extreme interest in (outdoor) sports generally have a corresponding interest in curtailing anthropogenic global warming. Because <waves at all these sporting event cancellations>.
I suppose they could run it at night (works for Paris-Brest-Paris) but it would make the mountain stages awfully sporty...
'rises to dangerous levels at or above the red high-risk zone of 28°C.' Meanwhile in 'Australia' 'Men's Stage 4 will be modified due to the ‘Extreme’ Fire Danger Rating for the Mount Lofty Ranges and predicted maximum temperatures of 43 degrees.'..That's 43C somehow not stated.
cycling is awesome taking your bike somewhere to do it is awesome make sure that bike rack is attached to an EV whenever possible 🤙🏽 that paid off outback or pilot pollute a ton of AQ/GHG, and you're responsible for most of the particulate emissions your fellow outdoorsy folks re ingesting
I’ve done fieldwork in very hot places in the ME and Med region. There’s a reason we didn’t work in the high summer and why we started work at 4am. And it was mostly (tho not always) dry heat - slightly better than the wet furnace blast we get here in the UK. TdF needs to be done earlier or later
Ideas to make the Tour de France better: • Put it in America • Call it "Tour de America" • We have more mountains than France • Play "Country Roads" after the race
this is probably Quinn Simmons unironically
Hydration break halfway through the mountain climb.
Instead of a Roubaix stage have an Unbound stage
Pretty sure all the racers would be fatally hit by various F150s throughout the course.
July 4th being the craziest stage that ends at the top of Pikes Peak with a fireworks show, of course.
• All roadside spectators required to wear French mime costumes with black berets and fake mustaches
Feed zones at local breweries.
And the Tour de France starts tomorrow. We are truly all spoiled as sports fans.
My goal is to have all of BlueSky screaming, "Campy!!!!" and "GC Kuss!!!" by mid-July
It is good that I'm not teaching rn because between the World Cup and Western States last weekend and the Tour starting, my productivity is basically nonexistent.
I think we can raise the profile of Le Tour here on Bluesky - The Sports App🚴
Tour de France teams are funny. I’m rooting for Build-a-Bear/Bank of Saudi Arabia
i bought a bank of saudi arabia build-a-bear but the limbs all fell off :/
There’s a Lease-a-bike team that I hear as Lisa Bike. I miss this team: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nippo%E...
So we don't know each other and I could quite possibly get this wrong, but my intuition says that you might be interested in this old team jersey, featuring Bob Roll and Eric Heiden (yes, the speed skater):
Can't believe the US Postal Service would cheat
Given I live in Wimbledon, I was about to force myself to be interested in the tennis but have realised the Tour de France starts today.
Having overdone the coppicing yesterday, the TdF start is very welcome. <preps couch <locates tea and painkiller supplies
Receiving less publicity than usual? Nothing in yesterday’s Times about it which I found surprising. The Guardian had a good guide to the teams and the stages.
I got very excited when I saw C5 have a nightly highlights show. Even if it isn't presented by the saintly Gary Imlach and the rest of the ITV4 team.
Apparently there is a TV channel called 5, which will show highlights every day
The Nations Championship means back to back international rugby all day today too.
Taking a long route from Cornwall to Brittany at end of month - so in Paris on 26th 😁.
I think today is the first time ever, since performance enhancing drugs were banned, that there will be no rider in the Tour de France who has experienced a doping scandal at the Tour.
Yet quite a few around the peloton 😬
Even though doping scandals are hiding in plain sight in today's tour
I guess it's small fry compared to what used to happen but the Bahrain raid felt like a doping scandal at the time
Was there ever a time when they weren't banned?
