MJF retains AEW World Title, Kenny Omega sets up Beach Break challenge

entertainmentJul 2, 202634409

On the July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF retained the AEW World Championship over Mark Briscoe after hitting an Alabama Slam and the Heatseeker following a violent, back-and-forth match that saw Briscoe use multiple Froggy Bows, two Tope Con Hilos, and an attempted Jay Driller. MJF busted Briscoe open early by targeting a Forbidden Door wound and finished the bout after repeatedly countering Briscoe's offense; MJF then attacked Briscoe postmatch with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Kenny Omega intervened to save Briscoe and confronted MJF, who declined an immediate challenge but offered Omega a title shot next week on the condition that Omega can never challenge for the AEW World Championship again if he loses. AEW announced MJF vs Kenny Omega for next Wednesday's Beach Break, making the match a career-altering stipulation for Omega. The segment sets up a high-stakes title match at Beach Break and leaves Mark Briscoe recovering from the attack and ring-side confrontation.
