Great American State Fair sees vendor and performer withdrawals

cultureJul 1, 2026381,668

Several vendors and performers pulled out of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall as the 16-day, all-50-states celebration unfolded. Mt. Olive Pickles withdrew after a Confederate flag was spotted at the North Carolina booth; Gov. Josh Stein’s office told WRAL News the flag has since been removed. Media coverage and on-site reports described deserted booths, sparse crowds and prayer tents around the fair, which is part of the country’s 250th celebration. Organizers have kept the event running on the Mall despite withdrawals and low turnout reports.
