Mexico beats Ecuador 2-0 in World Cup Round of 32
#MEXvsECU The Manteño culture was active throughout the early medieval period. Some argue the Manteño were more of a trading confederation than a kingdom, like the Hanseatic League. They were long-distance traders; their currency, the shells of spiny oysters, has been found as far north as Mexico.
Whoah! That sculptor had one bad dream! 😳

forgot to bury an offering in front of this guy to prevent rain, Taylor Swift fans buried bracelets and it didn't rain on the day of the concert
What did you just call it???
If that game was being played in the US there would automatically be a three hour delay.
Thanks for including the photo credits.
No wonder they delayed the game! Great photo.
It charged the stadium, the fans and Mexico's team! ¡Sí se pudo! ¡Vamos México!
This match is going to be so cursed, but I can't figure out for who
when we say everyone watches football, we mean everyone
Pretty sure this is how the soccer spin-off of Space Jam starts.
Another fantastic graphic story from Simon Scarr and the @reuters.com graphics team about lightning and the World Cup. Quotes from me. www.reuters.com/graphics/SOC...
Oh is this that alien thing
Tlaloc definitivamente estaba con el Tri en el partido.
quick, somebody photoshop Paul Bearer holding the Gold Cup.
Watching the atmosphere at the Mexico Ecuador game, I dunno how you can hold a final anywhere except Mexico City, now there's a city that truly madly deeply loves this sport
Raw emotions is beautiful to watch. I saw some women in tears screaming when they scored the first one. It's nice to see hosts succeed, they have made whole thing possible for everyone and it gets rewarded them doing well on the pitch.
Seattle could be a decent second choice. Games there have been lit, but yeah, nothing holds a candle to Mexico Coty for this World Cup.
Yes, the USA is the wrong place for a the World Cup. Because not that much into football, and definitely not known for enthusiastic crowds at any sport event.
Some swamp in New Jersey or Mexico City is not a tough call. Another of Infantino's many crimes.
This Mexico-Ecuador game is great. The crowd is so loud.
The atmosphere in estadio azteca is incredible. So much passion
It's super fast paced, almost like it's not football! As a Croatian fan, I am wondering how the Croatian team would even begin to keep up.
I was at a World Cup game played in Estadio Azteca in 1986 cuando ganó Argentina y Maradona. Muy orgulloso del equipo de México! Ándale México! Que ganan todo!
Mexico v Ecuador on Telemundo. Before the anthems, the stadium crowd chanted in support of survivors of the Venezuelan earthquake. “No están solos! No están solos!”
In the United States it is sometimes hard to believe that the rest of the hemisphere feels genuine affinity with the other nations in the hemisphere. I hope one day we feel that same affinity and solidarity here.
Not to mention that Mexico City experienced a similar earthquake in 1985, and it also revealed the depths of official indifference, leading to slow burn political consequences
Watching Ecuador vs Mexico last night, both teams joyously belted out their national anthems, singing with all their hearts. Watching England team now, barely moving their lips. I think our dated, uninspiring, turgid anthem is the problem. We need something more stirring.
Let’s start with getting rid of the royal family, then there’s no need for this nonsense.
Not so many of us that big on god and the royals nowadays
Years ago, Billy Connolly suggested replacing it with the theme tune from the Archers. Wouldn’t be my pick but I agree something more jaunty would be good.
I think so too. It's not really a national anthem, is it? It's an anthem to the monarch. Should be focussed on the country, not the monarch. And although I like 'I Vow to Thee, My Country', I also want something with a bit more ooomph.
Agreed, it is awful. The Irish anthem is equally awful. Compared to the magnificent Marseillaise, an anthem one can give absolute welly
Billy Connolly had the right idea, sure enough...
