Kylian Mbappé scored twice and Bradley Barcola added a goal as France beat Sweden 3-0 at the New York-New Jersey stadium in East Rutherford to reach the World Cup last 16. Mbappé opened the scoring just before half time after a short Dembelé-Olise-Dembelé sequence set him up for a close-range finish. France doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half when Aurélien Tchouaméni regained possession and Michael Olise played a weighted pass to Bradley Barcola, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Michael Olise produced two assists and a standout overall performance that repeatedly troubled the Swedish defence. Didier Deschamps highlighted the squad bond after the celebration, noting the team supports one another following his recent personal bereavement. According to match reports, Mbappé has now scored 18 World Cup goals, one behind Lionel Messi in the all-time tournament list.
