House bid to attach SAVE Act to NDAA fails

newsJun 30, 20264013,351

A procedural bid to attach the SAVE America Act to the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act failed when the House rejected the rules package 198-224 after dozens of Republicans joined Democrats in opposition. Speaker Mike Johnson pushed to graft the SAVE Act onto the NDAA; at least 12 Republican defectors were reported to have voted against the rules governing floor debate. The defeat blocked the immediate path for the voter-suppression measure to ride the must-pass defense bill, repeating a pattern in which the SAVE Act has repeatedly passed the House but stalled elsewhere. The failed rules vote also thrashed the House GOP agenda, leaving the broader NDAA debate and other floor business in limbo and raising questions about how leadership will proceed with reconciliation plans and further attempts to advance the SAVE Act. Observers noted this loss could force leadership to delay the NDAA timetable or pursue alternative procedural routes to move controversial provisions.

BREAKING on MS NOW: Mike Johnson's latest effort to force through the SAVE America Act to rig elections just failed. The House failed to clear a procedural vote 198-224 on the NDAA largely because the SAVE Act was attached.

you've got july in session, august/early september on recess, mid-late september in session, october recess, then midterms. in that time, you have to get the NDAA through, hardliners want the SAVE act to go through, johnson wants a third reconciliation, and now you're adding a SCOTUS confirmation?
