Zia Yusuf appeared on BBC Question Time and acknowledged that he has not stood for election. Yusuf, described in posts as Reform UK’s Home Affairs spokesperson, told the programme he had put himself forward to be a Reform candidate but the party did not pick him. During the show Fiona Bruce noted there were audience members who support Nigel Farage, and an audience member drew applause after linking Farage to Brexit and recent prime ministerial turnover. Panellists and viewers called out Yusuf for being repeatedly platformed on Question Time, questioned why an unelected spokesperson is regularly invited, and described his on-air tone as abrasive and confrontational. Emily Thornberry challenged Yusuf about why Reform had not selected him as a candidate. Several posts said the segment renewed scrutiny of the BBC’s choices about who it invites to speak for Reform UK.
