Apple raises Mac and iPad prices, blames memory shortage

Apple announced on June 25 that it raised retail prices across iPad and Mac lines worldwide, saying surging memory and storage costs driven by AI data-center demand can no longer be absorbed. The company said increases affect entry iPads, multiple MacBook models, iMac and Mac Studio, plus Apple TV 4K and HomePod models. In the U.S. the iPad Air price rose by $150, and Apple updated Hong Kong pricing so the 13-inch MacBook Air moved from HK$8,999 to HK$10,499. Some individual model price jumps run roughly in the 15 to 25 percent range, while one report shows a much larger increase for Apple TV. Apple said iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods prices remain unchanged for now and warned tighter memory markets could force further adjustments. The change pushes higher component costs onto consumers and is expected to ripple into reseller and refurbished markets and enterprise purchasing plans as memory supply tightness continues.

I warned in my column since late last year that the #RAMpocalypse would bring big price increases to all digitalia. Today #Apple made price big hikes on many products - as Tim Cook had warned. I bought an M5 MacBook Pro from B&H Photo in Feb. and that price was $500 less than the new price.
