Steve Clarke signed new Scotland deal before World Cup, faces criticism

The decision to hand Steve Clarke a new four-year deal before the World Cup was madness at the time and looks even worse now. It's been clear for some time that this Scotland team needs a new voice.

Steve Clarke is brilliant at qualifying for tournaments and terrible at doing much more than merely existing at them.

Do Scotland deserve to progress? No. Should Steve Clarke be fired, into the sun preferably? Yes. Do I still need a primer on exactly which teams I need to root for/against for the next few days so they do progress? Also yes.

Scotland have never been more successful in my lifetime. I’ve never been less interested in watching Scotland in my lifetime. That’s the crux of my issue with Steve Clarke’s Scotland. I may be alone in that, but the ends just don’t justify the turgid, boring means.
