David Beckham filmed sipping an enormous wine glass at the match
During the Scotland-Brazil World Cup match broadcasters repeatedly cut to David Beckham in the executive box as a camera lingered while he sipped from an oversized red-wine snifter. A commentator joked, "There's someone in the crowd now. I don't recognize him," as the close-up showed Beckham holding the stem of the glass. The snifter was noticeably larger than typical stadium drinks, making the shot stand out alongside Beckham's high-profile presence during the broadcast. The moment matters because it highlights the optics of celebrity hospitality in executive boxes compared with supporters in the stands during major sporting events.
15yo, as we’re watching the England vs Ghana match: a lot of the World Cup players are, like, basically your age Me: yeah, I’m surprised they’re still playing! 15yo: Ronaldo is 41, Luka Modrić is 41 Me: hell yeah 15yo: David Beckham is retired, but you’re almost his age Me: NO I AM NOT
We were watching a baseball game some time ago and I remarked that Carlos Santana was "basically my age" and now the kids won't stop asking why I'm not a professional baseball player "if old people can play it at 50 years old or whatever, why don't you?"
Tell him that when he was the same age as Keith Richards is, William Shakespeare had been dead for thirty years.
Ok, I'm new to the sport, but I have to agree that the hydration breaks kind of suck. It does wreck the flow of each half. The funny thing is that people complained it was for ad breaks, but the ads kind of suck also. Like, what is David Beckham in a Home Depot ad trying to convince me to buy?
don't worry this is not a thing in soccer usually!! it's the first world cup that they've implemented this rule. I've been watching the games on Telemundo for the Spanish commentary and they don't cut to commercial during the breaks and show highlights instead
Hydration Breaks im torn on like ok its hot out there but Half Time is for that stuff it always has been now we have 3 half time breaks pretty much lol
In UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) matches hydration break will ONLY make sense if the temperatures are high. I'll say this, hydration breaks should have been at least and I mean AT LEAST 1 minute. 3 minutes is exagerated. But I get what you mean.
