Buster Posey declines to address Giants' Pride Night questions
Buster Posey, president of the San Francisco Giants, told reporters he would only take "baseball questions" when pressed about the team's Pride Night controversy. Posey, the first Giants executive to publicly address the episode, said the organization has discussed the incident internally and urged reporters to focus on the team, the draft, the trade deadline and "trying to win games." The comments follow reports that several Giants pitchers altered or refused Pride Night caps, drawing public criticism about discipline and the franchise's relationship with its San Francisco community. How Posey and the front office handle the fallout will shape perceptions of the club's leadership, clubhouse culture and accountability to local fans and LGBTQ+ residents.
The baseball question is, “When you’re 15 games below .500 and have produced your share of totally horseshit moments on and off the field so far this season, is it worth rostering bigots who are at odds with your fan base and your franchise’s legacy?
I also appreciate the reporter who took "stick to sports" and replied THEY made it about sports because it happened at THEIR baseball game with THEIR baseball players while Posey just sits there and looks like the King of Dipshits.
And 3 out of those 4 pitchers who continue to embarrass the Giants off the field aren't even worth keeping on the field. I'm not taking lectures about the bible from Ryan Walker and his fucking 5.21 ERA.
Meanwhile Cashman has a team of guys who usually won't embarrass him or the org, and says in an interview that the Legacy of Pride stuff is the best thing he's ever done. It shouldn't be this hard.
Imagine the difference in coverage if Phillies players boycotted Italian heritage night.
Buster spent years in the Bay, how could he be so out of touch with his own community? 🌉
I continue to remain astonished at how many rich men have absolutely zero personal courage or integrity
Probably because he is a bigot too.
Pathetic excuse of a manager. He knew these questions were coming, he could've had prepared statements from PR people memorized to state, but instead took the cowards way out of not answering anything. I do love your question though.
So American sports journalists understand how to hold someone’s feet to the fire and keep asking questions, why don’t the the political journalists do that. Oooooooo, that’s right, access, then books, then 💰💰💰. That’s how America “works”. I for one am glad it’s over
81 home games, Major League Baseball is all about community and these are baseball questions. Time for somebody to clean house completely. Right now I don’t give a fuck, move the team to goddamn Portland for all I care #PDX
What makes him qualified to do this job in the first place?
"Buster, what would you say you do here?"
Here's my baseball question Isn't it true bigots are also bad at pitching? Do your pitchers spend as much time practicing as they do hating members of your fanbase
If this dude wasn’t a white male he would have been fired by now. This is his team, he engineered it, he put it together. Just because you’re good at one thing doesn’t automatically make you good at something else. Oh to have the confidence of a mediocre white man.
-4 San Francisco Giants who defaced Pride Night hats did not have to wear them. -They had a choice between their regular uniform and a pride night uniform. -They did it to tell everyone they hate LGBTQ+. I hope they live in fear.
And the team let them do this, have yet to reprimand them, made any sort of statement to the SF gay community and the community at large, and are 100% dead to me. Fuck you, SF Giants.
Major League Baseball, notoriously the most bigoted and particularly most racist of the major American sports, absolutely was absolutely not going to impose any anti-bigotry on their white trash players. The safest space imaginable for these delicate b*tch-boys and it still was too much for them.
The ballplayers claim that they cannot express their faith. Putting aside that Jesus said that such expression should be done in private, I saw Davis Martin of the White Sox wearing a crucifix around his neck, a cross on his belt loop and a "Jesus Won" t-shirt yesterday with no repercussions.
That's 4 people that shouldn't eat in a restaurant for a good while.
Some chose not to and some chose to, only to scribble a Bible verse on it. To the second group, they had to make it about themselves rather than ignore it and don't wear it. MLB Uniform Dress Policy prohibits unauthorized writing or alterations to the uniform. Any writing. They broke the rules.
it took them weeks to plan that? So they aren’t very bright along with being Ignorant pricks.
4 San Fran Giants hide their hatred behind the Bible.
Mediocre pitchers who won't be around for long. Since Roupp continues to get pummeled, it appears perhaps God does not favor him. Anyway, they will be traded or sent down and no one will remember them for anything except this. Don't wear the hat, fine. But this was a disrespectful slap in the face.
I wonder how those pitchers feel about their teammates dry humping each other in the outfield to celebrate a win?
Not just a choice not to wear them. Some of them chose to deface them.
I remember when I saw the AIDs quilt from San Francisco, many of the panels featured Giants fan clubs. The Giants logo was sewn into the panels many times. It’s not a great idea to turn off your fan base, guys.
Dear @sfgiants.com I’ve been a fan since I was 5. I refuse to watch any game these #HomophobicGiants pitch in. BTW, Ryan Walker is a shit closer and these four assholes are the reason your record sucks. And #BusterPosey had no problem wearing the Pride hat. Typical cherry picking “Christians.”
Giants Pitchers Protested Pride Night and Got a Warning. Colin Kaepernick Knelt for Black Lives and Lost His Career. open.substack.com/pub/historyc...
Haven't heard any conservatives tell them to shut up and pitch
Don't worry, all three will be out of the league in a couple years. Two of them are barely on the roster.
They read Genesis and came to the conclusion, "yeah, that sounds like how the beginning of the universe started" 😮💨 We somehow can't escape flat earth ignorance and watching the college WS shows a high majority of players sporting their "look at me!" crucifix so this trend is continuing.
Good reminder of why many top teams value who the player is as a person as well as how good an athlete they are. The Jays refuse to hire any sexual predators and the 2 who they found out were (Osuna, top closer & Alomar, HOF'er) they dumped so fast it made ones head spin.
All 3 kinda suck at pitching, too
Hopefully they're gone at the All Star break. I hear Aubrey Huff is looking for some hunting buddies.
Colin made the mistake of thinking for himself which, I'm guessing, isn't a big thing in a lot of cultures. The Giants pitcher just bought what he was sold as a kid and that's why this country is where it is.
That is mighty whitey of those pallid type of folks, protecting their own kind.
Think it would have been just a warning if they tinkered with their Airwallex corporate sponsorship patch? Hell no. But a little cowardly, Let's Go Brandon-style wordplay? Tsk tsk.
🤔Wonder why the different reactions to these situations? 🤨Could it be Kaepernick had that magnificent hair? Nah, had to be something else🧐
Also have to wonder how many gay families in San Francisco currently have a dog named “Buster” or “Posey.” Is it in the triple digits? From now on if you’re going to name your dog after an athlete be safe & make sure it’s a Valkyrie 🐾💜🏳️🌈
I just checked in the Chron's article about dog names. 99 registered Busters, 19 Poseys, 2 Buster Poseys. No idea about their families though.
Yeah, my dog is named Posey and I'm not feeling great about it right now
I wish political journalists were this dogged
