This ideology is far from new. It started and has continued unbroken, since the Civil War.

JD Vance told the New York Times he has spoken directly to Pope Leo XIV “in the last few months.” Two independent Vatican sources with intimate knowledge of the Church’s diplomatic relationships told me they were unaware of any such conversation and are skeptical it happened.

This is a key detail and God help me, but JD Vance correctly but poorly articulated it. Wars are not started, ended, won, or lost by soldiers. Soldiers fight battles. Soldiers gain territory. Destroy enemy forces and resources. But all of those are just to force politicians to end the war.
