Hannah Pingree and Bobby Charles clinch Maine gubernatorial nominations
Democrat Hannah Pingree, a former Maine House speaker, and Republican Bobby Charles clinched their parties' gubernatorial nominations after ranked-choice tabulation in Augusta, with state officials announcing the results early Friday morning. Charles sealed the Republican nod after holding an 18-point lead from Election Day through the ranked-choice runoff, while Pingree prevailed from a crowded Democratic field in the final tabulations. They will face each other in November, creating a competitive general election that will decide Maine's next governor and shape the state's policy direction.
If anyone really (really) cares about ranked choice voting, or Maine, or just elections, Maine officials are about to announce the results of the governor and ME02 primaries. m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDZ5...
Preview of what we could be watching a week after the November election waiting for the results of Collin’s-Platner. Maybe.
Rank choice in national elections would enable people to vote 3rd party without accidentally triggering the fiasco that was Madison voters going for Jill Stein and putting Trump over the top in Wisconsin in 2016.
I feel like relatively few jurisdictions in the U.S. have an official come out and announce the results, but maybe I've just overlooked it because it's preempted by media calling the race and candidates giving speeches.
It's Maine RCV Tabulation Day 4. By most accounts, we should know the general election candidates for Governor and Congress by the end of the day today. Drop your data-backed or hopium-fueled best guesses here. #mepolitics
Only comment is that Shah seems somewhat less likely to wind up the nominee than most folks probably expect and Bellows is somewhat more likely than her 4th place first-round finish might seem to imply.
I'm curious to see which one of the "coalition" will end up on top for the democratic Governor nominee. I hope Dunlap somehow ends up above Wood and Baldacci, but I don't think it'll happen. If I flipped a coin, I'll say Wood will end up with it
