More than 770,000 children lose SNAP benefits after federal changes

newsJun 17, 2026242,848

ProPublica found that in 12 states, 776,134 children are no longer receiving SNAP benefits after Trump administration changes to the federal food program. Those children represent 46 percent of the 1,670,011 people who lost benefits across those states; in Arizona the child caseload fell by more than 200,000 since July 2025, a 55 percent decline, and Tennessee reports nearly 100,000 people removed from SNAP. Several state attorneys general and officials are urging Congress to add language to the upcoming Farm Bill to restore eligibility because the cuts are increasing hunger, burdening food banks and small retailers, and shifting costs and administrative strain onto states.

I love how these ghouls always say that they have “lifted these people off of food stamps”, but they actually just denied them the food that they deserve.

Grumpy Zeus56

Republicans never fail to abuse children in every horrible way imaginable.

✊🏼 NoFilterBoomer41

Republicans want poor people to die.

Hittielove223

Trump starved millions of children in other countries by withdrawing essential U.S. aid - now he's starving American children.

RN Mayhem19

Who is taking all the welfare?

Sailing Steve18

Right in line with their hypocritical agenda.

Scott Santens17

This sucks but I really think we should just do UBI instead. Before these cuts, SNAP was still not reaching 1 of 3 people below 130% of the poverty line. It was still not enabling people to buy any food they want, anywhere, like cash does. It was still hitting recipients with a 30% marginal tax rate

Dona Dickinson16

Hungry kids suffer while he spends our tax dollars on bombs and covering statues in gold. What a cruel demon he is.

Tileman12

Y’all need to go interview some of those families Trump cut off and see how their lives have been impacted. Statistics don’t change minds but compelling stories do.

CatCmdr110

Old folks cut, too (I think they still count)!

Jack Brand9

Taking people off SNAP has Russ Vought written all over it. Trump couldn't tell you what SNAP even stands for. Vought is happy Trump is prancing around having UFC fights and starting wars, while he dismantles everything.

David Marantz7

It’s ok, though. That money bought a fraction of a bomb we dropped on Iran to no positive outcome. We also gave a bunch of cash to the drone company the Trump boys are invested in. So all good.

Depriving hungry children access to food is a goal in the U.S.?

Twirled Peas6

We're watching massive corruption: insider trading, slush funds, Trump/family grift, wars being started over oil... that's the short list. Meanwhile, the millionaire and billionaire flunkies are starving Americans. 4.3M people with less or no access to food is a tragedy. Cage matches over kids.

K🤦‍♀️𝙑6

Have all the babies they said. No abortions they said. But also, have all the guns, the industrial pollution and devastated economic environment too. Here’s 1982 wages and praise them for allowing jobs to exist, but also AI will cancel it. They love the uneducated, they vote to hurt themselves.

Pattie5

They screamed "America first" and then cheered when cuts were made to a program that helps Americans. Depraved, sick people.

sflubio.bsky.social5

And Elon is a trillionaire.

Tim?4

They'll tell their base these numbers are all because of illegals getting benefits which makes the starving of children okay for them.

m. hela fella3

Horrible that children have to suffer because other than to sexually assault them or hold them hostage in the womb, trump & his administration do not care if children starve.

Thanatos3

Republicans support tax cuts for the wealthy who don’t need it But they’re totally fine with children, not having even two meals a day to fund that compliance to the ultra wealthy Every republican who is fine with this needs a punch in the face

M 💓🏖️3

They should pay fairly and then less people will need assistance.

Brian O'Blivion 🅰️👁3

This too is "culture war." See? Casualties.

Wolf3

He's lifted them out of poverty, that's a direct quote... By kicking them off supplemental nutrition benefits/food stamps

Laura Lee3

Pure evil… Trump and the Republicans are starving children while spending taxpayer money on a ballroom, reflecting pool and an illegal war.

Cruelty is the point! #StopTheCoup

Franken-Pattern2

Denying the most vulnerable in our society food is violence.

Ed Hirschler2

Writing off hungry children permits the Clowncarcrash Administration to deny their existence. Of all the horrific acts inflicted on our most vulnerable, axing SNAP tops the list.

dabxdee.bsky.social2

The party of family values and pro life, just not your family or your life. Your oppression is their profession...on your tax dollars.

mxtdoliver.bsky.social2

The party of pro birth doesn't care about actual breathing children. This is nothing new. They've been this heartless for decades.

jac-2025.bsky.social2

SO, WE THE PEOPLE, CAN'T AFFORD SNAP BENEFITS FOR HUNGRY CHILDREN OR HEALTHCARE FOR POOR FOLK, BUT WE CAN AFFORD $400 BILLION FOR IRAN $1,776 MILLION FOR THE INSURRECTIONISTS WHO ATTACKED CONGRESS SO THEY GET PREPAID FOR DISRUPTING OUR ELECTION IN NOVEMBER? IMPEACH CONVICT INDICT CONVICT IMPRISON!!!

Cirrus2

"Research shows that children who receive SNAP benefits are healthier, have better academic outcomes, use hospitals less often and have better mental health as teenagers."

Gabby2

Kids need food more than Trump needs a ballroom and J6 traitors need a payment for attacking the Capitol.

epluribusfractum.bsky.social2

If kids aren't receiving the best nutrition, their brains can't develop optimally, and that will diminish what they could achieve later in life.

Isaac Smith2

Republicans hate children. Even when they're raping them.

Yet more evidence of red voters in red states shooting themselves in the foot. And it doesn’t affect just the poorest. These people have less to spend on groceries, clothing, fuel, entertainment, healthcare — virtually every business in the economy is affected. Think of it as trickle-up economics.
