Hockey Night in Canada will not air on CBC next season
Greed kills culture. It's no longer Hockey Night in Canada. Sports should be on public broadcasters. www.cbc.ca/sports/cbc-n...
Bettman finally gets His way. US control over the NHL. Time for Canada to start a new league with our European friends. 🍁🇨🇦
As a Detroiter, CBC was the best way to watch games, even if it wasn't the Red Wings playing. The greed is gonna kill it.
No more Hockey Night in Canada is just plain wrong.
Millionaire sports are over rated and over funded. Meanwhile local ball games, hockey and soccer are in almost every community waiting to be noticed. Maybe it’s time to reconsider the devotion to all things manipulation.
We feel your pain. We lost the French equivalent 'La Soirée du Hockey' on Radio-Canada in 2004.
Why is the cbc run by people who hate the cbc...? I don't even like hockey but even I can see this is clearly bullshit!
This is evil. Hockey Night in Canada goes back to before Newfoundland was part of the country. This is an attack on the CBC and I love my public broadcaster. I can afford to subscribe but I’m not going to because fuck Rogers.
Rogers is the most expensive and worst service... I do not know why people pay them.
Don Cherry's awful plaid sportscoats are spinning in their graves.
Greedy greedy greedy. To just snatch away a sacred Canadian icon is unconscionable. It belongs-to generations of Canadians. I also remember the “and Newfoundland” tagline. Of course I remember when the HNIC theme had the sound of breaking glass, too, so what do I know?
I mean, -evil-, in this economy... well okay sure actually yes
1) Seeing the news that CBC is exiting NHL broadcasting, just short of HNIC's 75th anniversary on television, and ending a tradition that, when radio is included, goes back to the CBC's beginnings. www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hocke...
Sorry to hear that— in my childhood, HNIC was “treat night”…chips, popcorn & our weekly soda…while watching the most exciting sport ever invented ❤️🏒🇨🇦
2) From the vaults, here's a piece I wrote for TVO @therundowntvo.bsky.social on the first director of the TV version of Hockey Night in Canada, who may have had a hand in creating some other iconic series... www.tvo.org/article/a-ma...
Saddened to hear that Hockey Night in Canada is ending after a remarkable run of nearly 75 years. I love CBC's hockey coverage and often prefer it to US-based options. Curious to see what Canada picks as its next national sport. I don't think any country has officially picked Magic. Eh? #WotCstaff
I'd love to see them shift to doing PWHL Hockey Night in Canada. It's *Hockey* Night in Canada. Not NHL Night In Canada.
For the record, I searched Bluesky's emoji widget for "Canada" hoping for a flag to punctuate that last post, and all it gave me was this moose. 🫎
I'm hoping Ron MacLean pulls a Colbert and does commentary on cable access
