Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition spotted at retail, Switch 2 key card
Retail listings and a ratings board entry list Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, complete with box art and a formal rating. The product is described as a game key card rather than a full cartridge and advertises "all content included," bundling the base game with the DLC released to date. The listing makes no mention of a paid upgrade path for owners of the current Switch version, implying players may need to repurchase to get the Switch 2 build. This matters because Sega appears to be treating the Switch 2 release as a separate paid product, affecting costs for existing owners and collectors who care about physical packaging formats.
🚨 LEAK WATCH: Thanks to Reddit user u/conis-4, we may have our first look at the cover art for Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition. No official details about the game have been revealed yet. #SonicNews
Oof. If they don't do an upgrade path like they did for CrossWorlds, I'm not even going to bother. Game wasn't good enough to double dip. No, I don't care that it's a GKC.
These fucking Game Key Cards man
- it has a game key card
This gotta be the most leaked game of all time
aaaand it's a game key card...
Purposefully making this a "Definitive Edition" and not a Switch 2 Edition to avoid a full game card and upgrade pack is diabolical. Honestly makes me think less of you as a publisher and you will not have my support
Another Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S
It’s just free content available everywhere else too Very weak offering
Between this and AI in Crazy Taxi, SEGA is pretty blatantly showing their cards here. Unfortunately, as excited as I am for a new 3D Sonic or the new Jet Set, I have no reason to believe they won't be shady and I'm going to stop buying from them rn. Any SEGA that's doing well never stays doing well.
This actually makes me afraid of when they officially announce the next Sonic game, because the physical version on the console I want to play it on will basically just be an empty husk with pretty art. Anything to actively not get the point of game preservation.
never forgetting Sonic Origins getting a price cut then Plus being released for the same price as the original release meaning tl;dr SONIC ORIGINS IS A MASSIVE FUCKING SCAM
In fairness, SEGA aren’t the only ones who pull this strategy. Bamco & Square Enix do something similar to avoid having to make a full cartridge.
I'm gonna be real upset if SEGA stops doing Switch 2 Editions because Sonic CrossWorlds didn't sell well after coming out months and months after the other versions
2024 was sonic team's most financially successful and consistently competent year since the 90s and theyve been spending the past two years since then shooting themselves in the dick to regain their reputation as sega's worst subdivision
