Mike Lee lashes out after Pentagon omits LDS from Christian list
Senator Mike Lee lashed out after the Pentagon removed The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from a list of recognized Christian groups in a recent policy update. Lee called the omission "repugnant" and targeted commentator Pete Hegseth for spotlighting the change. The classification matters because Pentagon lists inform Department of Defense guidance on religious recognition, which can shape chaplain services, accommodations, and how elected officials address religious inclusion in federal policy.
I find it curious that Mike Lee is now taking the position that the government should not be weighing in on matters of religious doctrine, despite joining an amicus brief in the Fifth Circuit that urged the court to uphold the Ten Commandments in public schools, now that he's on the receiving end.
