Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won 49.81% of the vote in Armenia's parliamentary election, the Central Election Commission said. Those results translate to an absolute majority of 61 of 105 seats, leaving Civil Contract nine seats short of the supermajority required to change the constitution or unilaterally approve a peace referendum with Azerbaijan. The Moscow-aligned Strong Armenia alliance finished second with about 23.3% and the Armenia Alliance took roughly 9.8%, weakening Russia's preferred political options in Yerevan. The outcome gives Pashinyan a clear pro-Western mandate to govern alone and to press negotiations on security, European ties, and the contested peace process.
