Pentagon hires convicted Jan. 6 rioter for sensitive counterterrorism role
The Trump administration hired Elias Irizarry, convicted for his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, into the Pentagon office that oversees special operations and irregular warfare. Prosecutors said FBI agents WHO searched Irizarry’s phone found a gap of data from January 1 to January 8, 2021, which they said indicated deleted information about his involvement on January 6. Irizarry was 19 at the time of the attack and the position sits in the Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict office, which manages highly classified counterterrorism and irregular warfare operations.
