John Cornyn defeated by Trump‑backed Ken Paxton in Texas primary
On May 29, 2026, Texas Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) lost the Republican primary to Attorney General Ken Paxton, WHO ran with President Donald J. Trump's endorsement. Cornyn, a longtime senator and former Senate GOP whip, conceded after Paxton consolidated conservative support despite Cornyn's establishment backing. Paxton's victory amplifies Trump's influence over Republican primaries in a top-tier Senate race and increases the likelihood of a more polarized general election matchup in Texas.
Raw Story: Sen. Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Rand Paul, Lisa Murkowski, John Cornyn, and Thom Tillis comprise a new "Gang of Six" — Republican dissenters who feel no obligation to Trump and are willing to oppose him on key votes. I'll believe it when I see it. #ProudBlue #Pinks #SheShed
I do not believe a word that comes out of Susan Collins mouth...and based on the polls, it seems Maine doesn't either.
Correct ✅ I’ll believe it when these 6 Senators vote against the nearly $2 billion dollar J6 slush fund & billion dollar 💵Bunker Ballroom project. There is absolutely no bottom to the depravity and greed of Felon Trump, & his crime family, along with Peter Thiel and theBillionaireVultureCapitalists🌊
Maybe Platner, the oyster farmer, can give Collins some pearls to clutch, I think the ones she has must have worn out by now...
I'll never believe Susan "trump has learned his lesson " Collins.
DO NOT put Collins in that category
I don’t believe it either.
I was going to write the same - I'll believe it when I see it, especially hand-wringing, concerned Susan Collins, whose false concern about anything and everything is gross.
Ken Paxton routed John Cornyn in this week’s Texas GOP Senate primary runoff. The result is a stunning rejection of a political lifer—and the final blow to George W. Bush’s political hold over his home state. I wrote about it. www.theringer.com/2026/05/29/p...
Great piece @joelanderson.bsky.social I don’t think people realize how late Texas was to this Republican stalwart state status (despite what every huckster post tea party has claimed) and the back-drop of Cornyn enabling it the whole way is terrific.
30 years of republican rule in this state and they still run on the message that only they can fix it.
