Cecilia Vega was fired from 60 Minutes and accused CBS of "censorship, both imposed and self-driven." CBS named outsider Bari Weiss to lead 60 Minutes as part of a major shakeup that also included other departures. Vega said reporting teams had held back important story pitches out of fear of internal repercussions and said she fears for 60 Minutes' future, raising concerns about editorial independence at the flagship broadcast.
Fired 60 Minutes-er Cecilia Vega put out this statement: "In recent months, my producing teams and I have experienced efforts to insert political bias into our stories. Reporting teams have held back on submitting story pitches about important news topics out of fear of the internal repercussions."
