Nick Bilton named executive producer of 60 Minutes
CBS News editor Bari Weiss named tech journalist and documentarian Nick Bilton executive producer of 60 Minutes. Bilton, a former New York Times columnist and maker of documentaries, said he will add new voices to the show and called 60 Minutes "the most important news program in America." He dismissed recent controversy around the program as "just noise" and outlined plans to modernize the long-running investigative series. Bilton's outsider background signals a shift from internal promotions and a push toward tech-savvy, narrative-driven reporting at the network's flagship news magazine.
CBS made it official today and fired Sharyn Alfonsi. This is after Alfonsi revealed that the network and Bari Weiss hadn't responded to her for months as her contract expired. It's also after Alfonsi was cheered at last night's Emmys, while Bari was called out by a kid for destroying the network.
"Fuck these assholes. Not even a 17-year-old with more journalistic integrity than anyone at the so-called Free Press can shame these ghouls," a CBS senior staffer told me, referencing the student who called out CBS at last night's Emmys. "Just vile. Corporate stooges," another CBS reporter said.
So Bari hates cancel culture when it's not her doing it. Got it!
Welcome to state media. Donate to PBS, to keep them free of state tv, and watch PBS NEWS.
Sharyn dared them to fire her and they did. Now she can sue the shit out of them for more than it would've cost to just keep her on.... Plus the disclosure process will be amazing. CBS now has two choices: Settle for million$ or become a laughing stock.
CBS is an utter shit show. Only Trump and his minions would so quickly tear down a one hundred year old media institution.
Walter would have been so fucking proud of that kid, btw.
Oh wow. I thought Bari was supposed to bring back trust to CBS News? Never watching that again
If only Tony Dokoupil was fired...he is just as worthless as his spouse Katy Tur on MS Now
Sharyn Alfonso is too good to work for an incompetent trunt.
He made sure "at will" was in there.
Cancel culture for me but not for thee.
corporate weaseling has apexed new heights
Any chance they chose Bari Weiss specifically because they know she’s not too bright?
remember when Nick Bilton bravely asked if your Apple Watch would give you cancer? I do. www.theverge.com/2015/3/18/82...
for those of you who remember The Inventor: he was a producer on the Eliz Holmes doc. she strung them along, promising an interview, got them to soft-peddle her fraud and then never did the interview
Sure sure sure, but COULD this "wearable computer" fad be as dangerous as sucking noxious chemicals into your lungs and holding your breath? We may never know.... Oh, wait, that article is a decade old? Shit, I guess we DO know. So... they gave this guy money for this? Like, not monopoly money?
These goofs -- Bari Weiss, Nick Bilton -- pretending that '60 Minutes on more days' is a new idea. Do the reading. '60 Minutes II' on Weds. (the Dan Rather led version). And 60 Minutes Overtime (archives and streaming). And 60 Minutes Plus (exclusive to Paramount Plus). www.axios.com/2026/05/28/6...
The CBS Evening News had investigative/enterprise segments called EYE ON AMERICA; features called ON THE ROAD. All of that takes time and money, so it’s been mostly lost to 15 years of nonstop cuts. Anyways, none of this is new. It requires staffing and newsroom stability, and they’ve got neither.
"and so on" instead of just saying "Friday and Saturday" is absolutely hilarious to me for some reason
