What's wild with companies like Square Enix, Capcom, and NISA clinging to key cards - esp. on last-gen ports - is that you have a decent number of folks, who'd gladly double or triple dip on stuff day one, but their cheaping out and denying a real physical release ensures that we stay far, FAR away.

Game Key-Card release and no save data transfers? YEESH. What an easy ball fumble by Square Enix.

Game key card is an automatic pass. Square has really disappointed me, iirc every single game they’ve released or announced for the switch 2 has been a game key card.

My brother’s and my Nintendo Switch 2 game collection. Finding ourselves choosing to get more multi platform games on our Switch 2,s performance & availability problems notwithstanding. Fortunately, for Game Key Cards I have a 1 TB SD card for storage, though cleaning out the fridge is necessary.

Also interestingly enough this is my first Switch 2 cart that is not a Game Key-Card 😅

Disappointed that it's yet another Game-Key Card, but at the same time, impressed by the 30GB filesize. No longer feeling the need to compress it to absolute hell just to get it running. And hey, $40 is a solid asking price for it.

Switch 1 save data not compatible / doesn't import. Upgrade path not planned. Physical is a Game-Key Card. Sounds fantastic, SquareEnix!

So basically they're doing a Persona style release. No upgrade option, no save data transfer, game key card, just pay us full price again. What a joke of 40th anniversary for Dragon Quest this has been.

Lack of upgrade path, lack of save transfer, key card. There shouldn't be anything wrong with the game itself, just the circumstances surrounding the release.
