Fans upset as Switch 2 physicals ship as 'Game Key Card'
Square Enix and other publishers are shipping several Switch 2 physical releases, including Dragon Quest XI S, as 'Game Key Card' inserts instead of cartridges. Many of these key-card packages do not offer save-data transfers from Switch 1 or a free upgrade path for owners of Switch 1 copies, effectively forcing some players to repurchase and restart. Bandai Namco confirmed that Digimon Story: Time Stranger’s Switch 1 physical will include a free online patch to bring it up to Switch 2 parity, underscoring inconsistent upgrade policies across publishers. That inconsistency changes the value of buying physical copies, raises preservation and save-transfer concerns, and is prompting some customers to prefer other platforms' physical editions instead.

So this is the Definitive Edition of the Definitive Edition, yeah?
No upgrade path is a kick in the nuts.
really wish they'd do more modernizations for classic DQ games. 8 is overdue for a remaster (the 3ds version stripped the stellar voice acting.) and IX didn't really get a chance to shine its brightest since it was a DS game but I'd love a chance to replay that with nicer visuals.
